Convention Guide

Convention guide

Conventions are great fun!

Here you get to know your club mates even better and here you can see the result of the training that has been done.

Swimming competitions are divided into approved (open competitions) and unapproved competitions (recruiting competitions)

Unapproved conventions (recruiting conventions)

These conventions are especially suitable for children between the ages of 8 and 11. Here, practice committees are arranged, the swimmers are not disqualified and there is a participant prize for everyone. These conventions cost 100 kroner regardless of the number of exercises. The goal for the participants in recruiting conventions is to get comforable at local conventions an learn the most basic convention routines. Swimmers participae in these convcentions until they are ready to try their first approved conference. By attending competitions, swimmers gain a better understanding of what they do during training and why it is important to learn the right techniques in the various exercises - in addition to the joy of mastering it.

Approved conventions (open conventions)

These conventions are for anyone over 10 years of age or older. Here there is timekeeping and ranking by level with 1/3 award. Here you are inspired by older swimmers and there are a few more butterflies in your stomach. At approved competitions  you get discarded if you do not swim according to the rules, which is not dangerous at all! One pays 100,- per excerise, not per person. You can find achieved times after the competition under www.medley.no as well as rankings throughout the country. NOTE: The 10 year old class is not ranked. This is because it is stipulated in the children's sports regulations that you can only use result lists and rank athletes from the age of 11.

Approved events often last half a day, and it is therefore important that time is set aside for the swimmer to participate in the planned part of the event.

LÅMØ, (11-15 years) is a priority for all relevant athletes in the club and is held in 5 different places in the country, one place for each region. The class 11 years, must have valid registration time on all 5 following distances: 50 aircraft, 100 back, 100 breaststroke, 400 free and 200 IM. Swimmers who are 12-15 years old must swim the following exercises: 100 aircraft, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 400 freestyle and 200 IM. This competition is a qualification for the Year Class Championship (ÅM) for the age group 13-16 years. The top 30 in each of the classes (13-14-15-16 years) will be qualified in relation to the ranking list. The ranking lists can be found at www.medley.no ("Ranking").

Starting license

It is mandatory to have a start license before participating in open (approved) conventions. The license is valid from the date of payment until the end of the year. By paying the license, you get the magazine Norsk Svømming og idrettsskadeforsikring. Swimmers over the age of 12 who do not participate in competitions can also pay for the license and thus be insured. Children up to and including the age of 12 are insured through a separate children's sports insurance and therefore pay a cheaper license. If the swimmer does not have a license, you can contact Jesper Madsen (jesper@tritonlillestrom.no)

From 2020, the following license prices apply

NOK 350 for 10-12 year olds. NOK 750 for basic license (13 years and older). The license is registered the first time a swimmer registers for an open (approved) swimming competition in a new calendar year.

Registration for conventions

Conference invitations can be found at the club's document archive, and the coach will inform about upcoming conventions. Coach and swimmer choose exercises together, and the coach reports to all swimmers in medley.no before the deadline. When a swimmer is registered, Medley will automatically send out an e-mail with information about the event, as well as which exercises the swimmer is registered for. The same e-mail states what the price is for participating, at the same time as the registration deadline can also be found. If the swimmer cannot participate in the competition, it is important that notice is given to their own coach and Preben Paulsen (preben@tritonlillestrom.no). It is important to comply with the registration deadline, as you will still have to pay if the cancellation comes too late.

Convention preparation

  • Always greet the coach when you arrive at the competition.
  • The swimmers start the competition day with a known warm-up on land. This keeps the nerves under control, while the body is ready to get into the water.
  •  When the land warming is finished, the swimmers will jump into the water to do the warming in water. There are several reasons why it is important to do a good warm-up in the water:
  1. General swimming which consists of getting to know the water, the pool, the surroundings, and waking up physically and mentally
  2. Specific swimming where the swimmers swim in relation to the exercises they have chosen in terms of start, turn, stroke, and where you have a little "sprinter" and "Race pace" to feel the speed
  3. Calm swimming in the end to calm down the body.
  • It is important to stay warm during a competition. Once you have swum, it is important to dry yourself and change your bathing suit / swimming trunks and put on clothes instead (shorts / trousers, t-shirt / sweater and slippers !!)
  • 15-20 minutes before the exercise starts, the swimmer must start preparing for the race :
  1. Check bathing cap and goggles
  2. Go through what is important in the race with the trainer
  3. Warm up on land
  4. You keep your clothes on until the heat in front has started, possibly 2 heats before if it is 50 meters

Then it's time to give everything you can!

  • When you have finished swimming, it is important to come to the coach for feedback!
  • Food and drink are very important during the competition. In the morning, it is important to have a good breakfast that contains a lot of carbohydrates. During the convention, it is important to eat little and often. Fruits, raisins, bread, pasta and nuts are good suggestions. After swimming, it is also important to get some nourishment for the muscles. Yogurt, smoothie and a banana are great suggestions. You must drink at least half a liter of fluid per hour, preferably as juice.
  • If you cannot attend the competition due to unforeseen events, for example that you have become ill, it is very important that you report this to your coach
